The deadly earthquake in Morocco on 8 September 2023 has damaged buildings in Marrakech’s Old City and parts of its historic walls. The area has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1985.

The disaster is likely to have a significant impact on the creative economy, an area in which the country is particularly committed, as well as on the traditions and know-how that constitute its intangible heritage.
