Nomad Exhibitions, a designer and producer of sustainable temporary, touring, and permanent exhibitions in the UK, has revealed a new travelling exhibition, Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World, developed in partnership with Nantes History Museum in France, with the close assistance and support of the Mongolian Ministry of Culture

The exhibition will open at Nantes History Museum in October 2023, before embarking on a world tour in 2025.

Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World features a wide array of Mongolian treasures loaned from national museums including the new Chinggis Khaan National Museum.

It is the first exhibition about Genghis Khan to be shown in France, and it will include a rare variety of artefacts dating from the first to the fourteenth century collected from Mongolia’s state collections, including a substantial number of national treasures, as well as objects from major French and European museums. The exhibition will provide a one-of-a-kind look at the history of the great 13th-century empire.

International cooperation

The exhibition also demonstrates the importance and impact of worldwide touring exhibitions. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, visited Mongolia in May at the invitation of Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia. Both presidents spoke about the exhibition partnership and expressed their joy at the cooperation between both countries that it represents. They also toured the recently opened Chinggis Khaan National Museum.

In a joint statement by France and Mongolia published on 21 May 2023, the two countries agreed to expand cooperation to intensify cooperation in culture and archaeology.

The statement notes that the two countries will: “support the exhibition entitled Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World which will be inaugurated at the Nantes History Museum under the aegis of the two presidents. In addition, they will collaborate to have this exhibition presented in Mongolia as well as in other countries.”

Tim Pethick, founder and CEO of Nomad Exhibitions says: “This exhibition represents over a decade of commitment by our team to bring to life an innovative and unique new exhibition revealing the extraordinary history of Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire.

“We are delighted to be working in cooperation with Nantes History Museum and Mongolian national museums to bring this exciting new production to visitors around the world.”
