Mediating Values: IP Licensing of Western Art Museums in China
Please register our event through Eventbrite
Contemporary museums have transformed into dynamic cultural actors within our society, assuming increasingly diverse roles and engaging in a variety of activities. Intellectual property (IP) licensing activities, especially through international collaborations, have emerged as a novel avenue for museum merchandising and revenue generation, particularly in response to declining public funding support.
This talk will explore this topic, drawing insights from a database featuring 11 Western museums located in France, the UK, the USA, Russia, and the Netherlands, all actively participating in IP licensing activities in China. The discussion will delve into the creation and accumulation of cultural and economic values along the IP licensing value chain, shedding light on how these values align with the museums’ overarching missions and objectives.
