ICOM UK online event – City as a Museum: Art Curation Beyond Institutional Walls

City as a Museum: Art Curation Beyond Institutional Walls is the next ICOM UK online event for students and emerging professionals. It takes place on Wednesday 17 August 2022, 14:00 – 15:30 BST (UK time).

Free registration via Eventbrite.

The dynamic development of art’s institutions plays a significant role in shaping art experiences. Today, curators engage in multidimensional museum practices when contemporary art embraces a borderless city space, challenging the traditional function of art museums. For the ICOM Student and Emerging Professional’s event in August, Francesca Curtis will discuss recent exhibition and engagement programmes by The Line, an East-London art organisation that rebuilds art’s intimate relationship with local communities and the natural environment. These projects map artworks in city space, exploring art’s possibilities in everyday experiences outside of museum’s walls.

Speaker

Francesca Curtis has recently joined the East-London art organisation The Line as a Development Coordinator. Her work is focused on writing grant applications for future projects, undertaking prospect research, reporting on current projects to funders, and organising event programmes. Prior to joining the team, Francesca has been completing a PhD in History of Art at the University of York, which focuses on representations of the ocean in contemporary art. She has presented her research at conferences in the UK and US, published exhibition and book reviews, conducted a research project for the environmental charity Hubbub, and taught art history and theory at the University of York and Art Academy London.
