The London Museum Documentation Network is running a series of workshops to gather feedback on version 3.0. of a new toolkit for managing digital collections. We are inviting GLAM sector colleagues to attend one or both of the workshops to help us road test and develop the resource. This is the final round of feedback before a final version of Toolkit is published.
The Toolkit is designed as a companion piece to Spectrum with a chapter for each of the 21 procedures. It provides museum professionals with a practical suite of tried and tested tools and guidelines, taken from the digital preservation community and adapted for the needs of the accredited museum. The aim is to enable museum professionals to manage Digital Collections Objects (DCOs) in accordance with digital preservation and collections management best practice as well as enabling colleagues to maintain the ethical, digital and cultural integrity of the object throughout its life, ensuring museum users and visitors can enjoy and experience these digital objects now and in the future.
Version 3.0 of the Toolkit is a complete version of the Toolkit including a chapter for each of the 21 Spectrum procedures. The focus in this last round of feedback will be on the chapters not yet peer reviewed or chapters that were peer reviewed but have undergone significant amends since the last version. These chapters are: Getting Started (significantly amended), Condition checking and technical assessment and Collections care and conservation.
Please complete this form if you are interested in attending one or both of the feedback workshops. To really help us put the toolkit through its paces we are ideally looking for colleagues with experience or knowledge of digital preservation within the museum sector. Therefore colleagues with this experience will be prioritised. We are interested in hearing from professionals working in organisations of all sizes.
Deadline for submissions is: Friday 19th August
