2023 ICOM UK Conference: addressing the legacies of colonialism nationally and internationally

Monday 17 – Tuesday 18 April 2023

City Hall, Glasgow

Since the murder of George Floyd in 2020, there has been an increasing awareness of how racism shapes our societies around the world, and how that racism has its roots in colonialism.

Over one day of conference sessions, and a second day of local tours, museum professionals from across the UK and around the world will discuss how museums can meaningfully address the legacies of colonialism.

Sessions will explore big questions around reparations, climate justice, restitution, education, and what these topics mean to museums, and how can we meaningfully grapple with them.

The programme details and speakers will be confirmed over the coming weeks.

Conference sessions will take place at City Hall, Glasgow on Monday 17 April followed by city tours and guided museum visits on Tuesday 18 April.

The ICOM UK 2023 Conference is a collaboration between ICOM UK, NMDC and Glasgow Life, with support from National Museums Scotland, Museums Galleries Scotland and Barker Langham.

ICOM UK members, staff working at NMDC member organisations and Glasgow Life staff get a discount on conference tickets. Individual tickets are £70 and Institutional tickets (group of 4 x tickets for one organisation) are £250.

Non-members can book early bird tickets until 28 February and save £20 on the regular non-member ticket price of £95.

Discounted tickets for students are available for £40.

We have a number of discounted tickets for people of underrepresented groups in museums. We will announce very shortly how to access these tickets. We will neither ask you to provide evidence nor will it show on your name badge or other delegate information.
