Beyond the Museum: Exploring Tangential Careers in the Cultural Sector

Beyond the Museum exploring tangential careers in the cultural sector

The ICOM UK Student and Emerging Professionals group are pleased to announce Beyond the Museum: exploring tangential careers in the Cultural Sector. This event aims to encourage students and young professionals interested in museum careers to explore opportunities beyond the traditional museum setting.

By examining various case studies, we will highlight the diverse possibilities available outside the institutional confines of a museum building. This includes working for a cultural communications agency, where one can collaborate closely with museum clients, contributing to strategic planning, public engagement and programming. Additionally, we will explore methods for developing curatorial practices independently of institutions with a focus on the medium of podcasting. The talk will demonstrate how this approach of carving out a space for yourself can effectively build expertise, experience, and networks, while allowing for creative growth and building a curatorial portfolio.
