ICOM UK is the museum association dedicated to the international work of British museums

International Committees

ICOM International Committees bring together experts of museum specialties.  The International Committees are global think tanks on museum, and more generally, heritage, matters.  They define the museum professional’s standards, share scientific information, establish partnerships with other organisations and develop recommendations for ICOM members.

ICOM UK Members are eligible to join up to four International Committees on confirmation of their membership (one in which you have voting rights (except Student members) and up to three in which you are interested in receiving information from).  Individual and institutional members can download an application form HERE.  A full list of the International Committees can be found on the ICOM website.

The following is a list of the ICOM International Committees, with links to their website and annual conference or meeting.  ICOM UK members are eligible to apply for a Travel Bursary to attend an International Committee annual conference or meeting.


AVICOM ICOM International Committee for Audiovisual, New Technologies and Social Media


AVICOM advises, keeps informed and increases the museum professionals’ awareness about the possibilities audiovisual methods and the new technologies offer to the museums.


CAMOC International Committee for the Collections and Activities of Museums of Cities


CAMOC is a forum for professionals working in or interested in museums about cities.

DEMHIST is an international forum for debating problems and solutions particular to the conservation and management of historic house museums.

GLASS International Committee for Museums and Collections of Glass


The International Committee for Museums and Glass collections is open to curators and conservators of glass from around the world. Members do research and care for glass vessels and windows from all countries where glass has been made, and from antiquity to modern times.

ICAMT International Committee for Architecture and Museum Techniques


ICAMT offers a forum for the exchange of ideas and expertise for all those interested in museums architecture, planning, construction and programming or in any aspect of exhibition production and design.

ICDAD International Committee for Museums and Collections of Decorative Arts and Design


ICDAD is devoted to museums and collections of applied and decorative arts conserved in museums, houses, castles and historic monuments.

ICEE International Committee for Exhibitions and Exchange


ICEE is a forum for the dissemination of knowledge and experience about exhibitions. The committee deals with many different aspects of exhibition development, circulation and exchange.

INTERCOM works toward the development of sound museum management throughout the world.


MPR International Committee for Marketing and Public Relations


MPR gathers museum professionals working in marketing, communications and development (fund-raising).

NATHIST International Committee for Museums and Collections of Natural History


NATHIST is concerned with the conservation of biological diversity in museums collections as well as in the natural environment, the scientific study of the world’s natural heritage and the education of the wider public through museum displays, conferences, field trips, etc.

UMAC International Committee for University Museums and Collections
