Carol Scott elected to the ICOM Executive Board for a second term

Carol Scott, former Chair of ICOM UK, was elected to the Executive Board of the International Council of Museums for a second term at the ICOM Triennial Conference in Kyoto on the 7th September. In her election speech to the Advisory Committee, Dr. Scott stated:

In today’s world when difference is too often regarded with suspicion, associations such as ICOM are more important than ever before. They keep conversations alive across cultures when politics challenge co-operation and dialogue. ICOM’s growing and increasingly diverse membership allows for dialogue and discussion on a global scale. Among the conversations which ICOM is leading are the role and value of museums in the 21st century, how we can best describe that role and the contribution that museums can make in a time of accelerated social change. I am privileged to have served on the Executive Board of ICOM during a term in which programs such as sustainability, museums and society, decolonisation and the museum definition have been established. I would consider it a privilege to serve the membership for a further term and support ICOM’s role as the global leader for the museum community.

Carol Scott joins an Executive chaired by President Suay Aksoy (Turkey) and including Vice Presidents (Alberto Giarlandini -Italy and An Laishun- China), Emma Nardi (Treasurer), Terry Nyambe (Zambia), Hilda Abreu Utermohlen (Dominican Republic), Maria Lourdes de Monges Santos (Mexico), Carlos Brandao (Brazil), Carina Jaatinen (Finland), Vinod Daniel (Australia), Tayeebeh Golnaz Golsabahi (Iran), Leontine Meijer-van Mensch (Germany), Eric Dorfman (USA), Nicholas Crofts (Switzerland) and Regina Schulz (ex officio- chair of the Advisory Committee).
