Bursaries and Grants

ICOM UK Bursary Fund

ICOM UK has a bursary fund to support ICOM members resident in the UK and British Overseas Territories to engage with the international museum community.  Bursary applications are considered on a first-come-first-served basis.

The ICOM UK Bursary Fund provides grants for ICOM UK members to attend ICOM General Conferences, meetings of ICOM International Committees (subject specialist groups) and other conferences with a demonstrable international remit.  As international travel continues to be challenging in many parts of the world, ICOM UK members can now apply for a bursary to attend online as well as in-person international conferences and events.

Reports from previous Bursary recipients can be read on the ICOM UK website.

2019-20 ICOM UK – British Council Travel Grant Scheme

This scheme is currently on hold.  We will let members know as soon as the scheme is open again for applications.

ICOM UK, with support from the British Council, is pleased to offer travel grants to support UK organisations seeking to build reciprocally beneficial international projects and partnerships.  The scheme is open to members and non-members.

The 2019-20 ICOM UK – British Council Travel Grant Scheme will enable recipients to undertake an international visit to meet with colleagues and share skills, expertise and experience.  The Travel Grant Scheme supports museums who are starting to develop mutually beneficial international projects and partnerships.  The scheme does not fund travel for international conferences and events (see details below of the Travel Bursary Scheme for ICOM UK members).

Applications will be considered for grants up to £1,500 per organisation or consortium for visits beyond greater Europe and up to £700 for visits within greater Europe.  The total amount of funding available for 2019-20 is £28,500.  50% of funding is ring-fenced for travel to ODA countries.

The grant will cover the cost of travel, including international and local transport, visas, accommodation and subsistence.

Case Studies from previous grant recipients can be read on the ICOM UK website https://uk.icom.museum/resources/case-studies/
